About the Hotel

Taprobane House is a luxurious boutique hotel with a swimming pool and restaurant that opened in 2024. Taprobane House was the home attached to Taprobane Book Shop. Taprobane Book Shop was a family run bookstore owned by the Subasinghe family. The bookshop is no more but the owners home which was called Taprobane House was demolished and rebuilt to a luxury boutique hotel today. Enjoy our architecture that draws on the historic bookstore with its wood workings attempting to resemble a messy bookshelf. It also draws on comfort of a home as it was the book shop owners home and even today you may see some of the family in the building. Architecturally we merge Geofrey Bawa’s Tropical Modernism with Contemporary island design to make this property truly unique.

Independence Square- This is the location where Sri Lanka declared independence.
Galle Face Hotel- This is the first Hotel in Sri Lanka and it looks on to Galle Face Green. Which is a park where the locals enjoy a leisurely walk along the seaside. Watch the colourful kites in the sky.
